The Beatles made several appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Their first appearance, on February 9, 1964, was seen by a then-record 73 million viewers and came to be regarded as a cultural watershed that launched American Beatlemania.
Commentators have attributed the Beatles' Sullivan Show appearances and early Beatlemania for helping to heal the national trauma from the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963.
