Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson), Dion and the Belmonts and Frankie Sardo Played a Concert in Clear Lake, Iowa. Due to the Tour Buses being unheated and constantly breaking down, Buddy Holly chartered a plane to fly himself and his band to the next show. Waylon Jennings, Holly's bass player gave up his seat to J.P. Richardson because J.P. had the flu, Holly's Guitar player Tommy Allsup lost a coin flip to Ritchie Valens and gave up his seat to Valens.
Holly's drummer Carl Bunch was hospitalized with frostbite on his toes from no heat on the bus. Early the next morning the chartered plane crashed and the 3 stars and the pilot all died. And the Rest is Rock and Roll....
