Buddy Holly - "Oh Boy"
Buddy Holly and the Crickets performed "Oh, Boy!" during their final appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on January 26, 1958. The performance is famous for the behind-the-scenes tension between Holly and Ed Sullivan. Sullivan and his production staff reportedly found "Oh, Boy!" too raucous and "lively" for their conservative primetime audience and asked Holly to substitute it for another track. Having promised his friends in Texas he would play the song, Holly refused to change the setlist. In response to Holly's defiance, Sullivan allegedly ordered the band's set to be cut from two songs to one and reportedly had the volume on Holly’s electric guitar turned down so low it was almost inaudible during the broadcast.
